How much do people do it?! I’m feeling stressed.
I’m 27 and feel like a failure at an adult. I had a nice apartment with a friend, but she got married and moved, leaving me with all the bills (she paid her half of rent). By the end of the lease (and all the weddings/bachelorettes I have been in), I was nearly broke.
I’m currently living with my grandmother and able to save 2/3s of my paycheck each month, but I’m a school teacher, so it’s nothing outrageous. It’s a slow build.
My boyfriend is currently with his parents after some crazy ex left him with debt and a ruined credit score. He is working to save and has built his credit back up. We have recently been talking about next steps, whether is is a ring or moving in together. But they just told him they’re moving in a few months, which puts so much more pressure.
I make more than him. Neither of us want to rent, but we also don’t feel like we could afford anything.
Am I naïve? I get discouraged seeing where others my age are. Do I just not know how they do it?
My salary is $46k. I have good credit... pay of my card every month. My only debt is a recent student loan I took out for my masters degree.
Why does it feel so hard? Any words of encouragement or advice?
