My wife went to urgent care for worry of a fractured wrist. Turns out it was just a sprain. The explanation of benefits came today and the amount seems pretty absurd. Here is the breakdown:
$220 - physician (expensive but makes sense, considering it’s urgent care) $166 - surgery (wut? She had an X-ray and they determined it was a sprain. Nothing even resembling “surgery” was conducted) $86 - X-ray (okay) $78 - X-ray (a second one? Wtf?) $134 - prosthetic device (okay truly wtf. She was given a fucking basic wrist splint. Nothing fancy at all. These fuckers only cost $20 at CVS.) $40 - physician (another physician charge?)
All this to be told her wrist was sprained and to wear a splint for a week. Some of it makes sense but most seems absolutely absurd. What can we do? Is this realistic?
