i’m an australian living in washington state.
i am struggling with frugality since moving and would appreciate any pointers.
in australia i used to love buying/finding used stuff and junk. i could clothe myself, furnish/decorate my house and salvage materials to build with or fix any of my possessions and it would save a ton of money.
all the goodwills here are so expensive compared, everyone wants top dollar for used and the antique stores have antique prices.
something i don’t have access to which i used to was two different “tip shops” which were stores at the dump where they salvaged from landfill/recycle anything worth selling and sold it. this is where i got my main deals, huge savings on stuff like scrap metal/wood, electronics to salvage parts to make/fix things and they always had bicycles that i would grab parts off.
another hit or miss was council roadside collection where people can dispose of their big items or “hard rubbish” i literally furnished my entire house salvaging free furniture.
the only other places i’ve had luck is the various buy and sell apps but most people want $30 for a busted stereo system which i could have picked up for a fraction of the cost of even free.
is there anything comparable here that i just don’t know about?
tldr: where can i buy/find junk?
