To keep up with the growth of r/frugalmalefashion and maintain the scope and quality of the content here, we've made a number of positive changes to keep this community strong.
The boring stuff:
- Updated the rules on the sidebar. These updates allow reports to be more specific as well as make more clear the rules in this community. Included in that, is a definition of frugality so that we stop getting comments about "how is this frugal" when a $300 Common Projects are shared.
- We are going to continue to allow Post-Sale discussion, and we want them to be ubiquitous following a 'short time' after the sale has occured. This offers a place for everyone to get together, swap sizes or say how awesome their hotdog keychain is. Keep in mind that these will only be held for very popular sales.
- We've changed the text in our "removal reasons" following the removal of posts and comments to make it clear why we decided to remove/delete them. This stops emails to mods asking why they were removed/deleted and also shows others why.
- Updated automod code. There was quite a bit done here. Ultimately it's better at removing posts that don't fit our scope.
- We're going to be more thorough on affiliate links and astroturfing. Please keep the reports coming; we've removed a large amount in the last seven days.
Less Boring stuff:
- We're adding user flairs for those who are somehow affiliated with companies. This improves their visibility in large posts and gives them credibility.
- We've added two post flairs: "Out of Stock" (for the obvious reason) and two flairs for redditors who post deals/sales on behalf of some company. For the company flairs, one flair is silver, the other is gold. The gold flair indicates the company has a reddit-specific discount ("extra 15% off for redditors") and the silver means they've reached out to us and we authorize the post under our rules. We hope this attracts companies to r/frugalmalefashion.
Request:
- We would like to have a reddit snoo for our page. The snoo is the little reddit alien, for those who aren't aware. We will create a post where you may post your created snoo and then upvote/downvote. Winner is the one with the most upvotes.
- Same for above, but with a /frugalmalefashion banner. See r/goodyearwelt or r/malefashionadvice as examples.
As always, we're open to comments and suggestions. We hope this subreddit is improving and keeping pace with other male fashion pages, free of spam and full of The Flashening-esque posts.
