So many restaurants seem to sell pre-made smoothies, but it seems like such a waste of $ to me. They're usually around $3.99 and have a bunch of cheap fillers added to them. Instead, you can make them yourself in less than 3 minutes with healthier ingredients for a lot less.
Today's smoothie:
Handful of oatmeal with a little milk dumped in to soften it ($.15)
Handful of fruit that was previously cut up and frozen (Bananas are only $.49/lb so 1 banana doesn't cost much... Blueberries & blackberries were frozen when they were $.77 a pint and I probably only used 1/3 of the package of each. 4-5 small chunks of frozen pineapple which only cost about $.10 because I buy them on sale and chop/freeze them)
Handful of spinach from the fridge ($.25 - .30 worth and you can't taste it in a smoothie)
1 cherry greek protein yogurt (they were 4 for $1.19 so $.30 worth)
A bit of orange juice (less than $.20 worth)
Bee Pollen because I hate eating the stuff and have been trying for a year to get rid of it
Minus the bee pollen, it couldn't have cost more than $1.50 - $1.75 and made 4 glasses worth... so about $.40 a glass. In my area, it's a much better deal to buy your own fresh fruit and freeze them in bags vs buying the prefrozen fruit at the grocery store.
Edit: Add avocados when you can! These can also be cut up and frozen. I was out of them today unfortunately, but they're definitely on my shopping list.
