For example, I brought my car in the other day for an oil change. Mechanic calls me a little while later to let me know that this part is rusted and that part is soggy and the whatchamacallit is loose, etc etc, so it’s going to cost an extra $500 or $800 more than what I expected just going in for an oil change. Happens not every time, but pretty frequently. I’ve owned multiple cars, lived in multiple states, been to multiple mechanics, so I’m wondering if it really is legit or if all auto mechanics are con artists.
How do I know when it’s legit and when it’s not? How do I know if, assuming the problem really does exist, that I’m being charged fairly?
Thanks!
