Hello Reddit,

I'm a 31y/o certified PMP & PMI-PBA business analyst with 10 years of experience under my belt. I'm currently working part-time as a consultant for an US-based finance startup, where I make $45k per year. I'm currently based on Chile, where I have low taxes, low cost of living and affordable healthcare ($250/mo for me and my wife, 10% co-pay for outpatient only), and the job isn't that demanding. In fact, I've also been managing my own company, a headhunting and outsourcing company that makes me another $30k or so per year. My side job is maxed out and there isn't much room for growth.

The company I currently work for in the US wants me to head their operations in NYC, where I would be acting as director of operations. Pay would be $120k + bonus & equity, W2, with health insurance and a 3% 401k match. The company would cover the move ($10k bonus) and the visa is not an issue.

The net pay increase will be of around $20k-$30k (after taxes and accounting for the higher COL), depending on the bonus and on how much I end up dialing back my side business. However, I'll have much better opportunities for professional growth. I'll need to sacrifice either my side projects or my chances of ever being top-dog in a management position.

My wife currently works part-time as a programmer (remote position) and she makes $30k per year. She's currently studying (also remotely), so she will neither take more hours nor take another job for now, so this number stays the same in both scenarios. However, NYC is probably will have better paying jobs for her in the medion-long term.

Redittors: what are the financial aspects that you would consider when comparing these two opportunities? Am I overlooking something? Is there any other data point - financial or otherwise - that needs to be considered?
