As I grew up I slowly lost interest in the purpose I was "assigned" since birth. I think people here are aware enough to know what I'm talking about - money, status, things. You'd think this realization was a good thing but I lost my life mission - my purpose. What now? Well, if life was without meaning there's no reason to do anything. I started downsizing, consumed less and spent more time in nature practicing survival skills because it felt like the rejection of modern society. People around me started to become interested in my lifestyle, especially considering I made good money but I mostly put it in the bank.
I've made plans to buy a small house in the woods (we call them "Torp") so I can start farming, gardening and hunting. Again people around me find it odd but hint that it's something they also would want but for some reason they can't. My mother dreams about becoming a gardener but she feels stuck in the office. I can see in my friends when we're hiking that they truly enjoy it and it costs next to nothing (Tools are expensive but can last a lifetime).
And that's how I found meaning again. Simple living has become my identity because I truly believe the simple, primal things are what people enjoy in life. I think we have to become living examples of the best way to live because it has the potential of elevating not only your own family but the entire world.
