Recently I had an issue where my relatively new bluetooth noise cancelling headphones sounded completely blown out when playing music from my laptop.

I mistakenly believed that this was because I had somehow gone from very quiet volume to incredibly loud in an instant, and ruined the hardware.

Thankfully, it was actually the result of too much of the Bluetooth bandwidth being used by the headphones' microphone function, which reduced the bandwidth capacity of the music coming from my laptop.

I followed instructions that I found online (not linked because of warning when I was about to submit) to turn off the headset's microphone capacity when connected to my laptop, and my headphones went back to working normally, which saved me a potentially expensive purchase.

You can check if this might be the case by pairing/connecting the headphones to a different audiosource to see if they still sound "blown out". If they don't, this may work for you.

These headphones were/are my noise cancelling/study headphones which I had invested some money into, so I'm super glad I didn't have to buy any sort of replacement.

Hope this helps someone!
