Besides the obvious don’t be friends with them, looking for nice retorts/comebacks.
Backstory:
Friend and I are both in tech with typical developer salaries. We live very different lives in terms of money habits, but still get along. I’ve mentioned I plan on moving into another apartment where the rent meets my max (<$700). He’s whatever about it.
The next day I ask him for a personal review on a nice restaurant he lives near (4-5 star) as I’m getting serious with a girl and want to take her out. He replies in a snobby way “Your rent max is $700 and you are trying to eat there?”
Kind of annoyed me tbh, just because I’m not spending $1600 on rent like he does doesn’t mean I don’t want I enjoy finer things in life.
I replied back “Cheap rent is how you afford to dine nicely” Best I could come up with. How would you guys have replied?
