I was thinking of buying a pair of iron rangers or blacksmiths, I've never bought true quality footwear before I've always had throw away shoes and boots, under armour boots turned to junk pretty quick, I have a pair of 511 boots right now that just from walking around the last 6 months have basically just worn out to be junk, I don't do anything crazy I just walk and stand a lot at work, I work in a home improvement store.
The price of red wings scare me, the from what I hear tough break in also scares me. I talked to redwing heritage live chat representative and they suggested that I go from my standard shoe size of a 14d down to a 13d in anything that is on the number 8 last (iron rangers and black Smith's specially is what I was asking about though).
So my real question here is are these boots really worth 3x what I would normally pay for a pair of shoes? If I oil and clean them every few months will they last me drastically longer than other stuff I've owned? How is the comfort on this traditional boot? How's the leather footbed fair? I normally just wear Wilson's athletic socks (baseball socks pretty much) that are fairly thin and not very thick would that work with this kind of shoe? What are others experiences with either of these 2 specific boots? I'm 25 so I've grown up with mostly everything being throw away but I don't care for that life style, if a 300$ pair of shoes would be a good investment and last me years then I would be down for it, I hate the throwaway society and things that have become a normal thing.
Also should I buy them from redwings heritage site directly? Or is it okay to buy them from Amazon where I can save a tad bit of money (like 25 bucks) on my size and get my free prime shipping? I can't go to a redwing store since there isn't any of them really reasonably close to me so I'm kind of stuck buying them online.
Thoughts and opinions? Help a noobie out here.
