My father is most likely going to pass away in the next week or 2. This leaves my 2 half-sisters (18 and 20) with no parents and me as the closest living relative. We are in the process of giving me durable power of attorney and changing his will to reflect changes he wants to make since his wife passed 3 months ago.
I'm trying to get a handle on all the accounts my father has. So far, I am aware of 2 mortgages on his primary residence, 3 properties that he has complete paid off, life insurance policy, stock options from his work, and possibly a pension from his work, credit cards, and checking/savings account.
What other things should I be keeping in mind? I'm thinking of things like health insurance for my sisters etc etc. I'm financially secure but I'm going to need to make sure I manage all of these various accounts correctly to keep a roof over my sister's heads. Is there a certain type of financial advisor that specializes in estate management or would they be an unnecessary siphon on the funds that are supposed to be used to settle his affairs and take care of my sisters?
Thank you!!
