I am an independent contractor who performs paralegal services for a small company. I go to school part-time, and have paid for the last two classes in cash to try and finish my four year degree and improve my future. I'm pretty close to finishing my degree in philosophy from a large public university in the northwest USA.
I currently make, on average, $1,200 - $2,000 per paycheck (twice per month), and pay approximately $910.81 (assume $1,000, in case I've missed some small monthly subscriptions or fees) in bills and debt payments, each month. This will be reduced by $250 after another month or so because one source of debt will be paid off, so about $750 to bills and such.
I have $1,000 saved up right now, for my tax fund.
What do I do with the IRS, and how can I pay them off ASAP and start saving for next tax year, while also trying to save up to continue going to school?
Part of the reason I am unprepared for taxes this year is because I didn't know, as this is the first time I've done this, that there's a self employment tax that I got hammered by, and then some other things happened in life. So... Learning experience. I made mistakes but need help figuring out how to fix this.
