Hi, DIYers - I've done a fair bit of searching, and while I've found some useful info, I haven't found a certain or precise answer for my situation. If anyone here can give a quick piece of advice for what I think is a pretty straightforward issue, I'd appreciate it!I have a walk in shower with a glass panel wall and no door. https://ift.tt/2Ygh5ZZ It sits in U channel metal pieces on the floor and wall. I recently discovered some water leaking and after testing out a few spots, I believe the water is coming from two problem areas. (1) Where the horizontal and vertical U channels meet, there is no silicone on the exterior side. https://ift.tt/2TlsPqk (2) The silicone on the interior vertical seems to be failing and I suspect water is penetrating at a certain spot, a couple of feet above the ground. https://ift.tt/2Ygh743 like to fix this the "right" way and I'm concerned solving for (1) only will be a temporary solution, until problem (2) gets worse and the volume of water penetration worsens. My primary question is if I want to re-silicone (2), do I need to remove the glass in order to run silicone inside the U channel vs. running silicone over the "seam" where the glass and U channel meet? Of course in either scenario I'll remove the old silicone, though I'm concerned if I leave the glass in, I may not be able to see and remove all of the old silicone. I suspect removing the glass is the best bet, but I read something online about being able to "dry set" glass in U channel (no silicone inside the channel before glass install, silicone applied only after glass install). I don't have much home repair experience, so I'm a bit nervous and maybe I should start with the more simple "dry set" approach, if it is viable.Thank you in advance for your suggestions!! via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2TPAOks
