Hi everyone,I was prepping a room for some paint work, filling in little holes with filler and checking a crackline that’s been in the wall for years (at my parents house which is why I hadn’t addressed it before as they would just brush it off as the house settling). Anyway, when I was checking it I felt the wall would push in if you pressed it in at a spot to the right of the crackline as it goes downwards (you can press anywhere to the right of it for about 30cm and it flexes). I then found that the plaster/brick came out very easily, it’ll continue to come out if I try but I don’t want to damage anything any further so left it where it is in the picture. This room is a bedroom on the first floor if that changes anything too.I’m guessing what I’ll have to do is remove everything that’s loose and then plaster over it? But my main concern is that is this plaster or brick that is loose? As brick obviously does a lot more supporting than plaster. The loose material itself appears to only be about 1-2cm deep, with the crackline going through the next layer another 2cm. Which is my other concern, as to how to fix the crackline that almost certainly is in the brick? Here are the pictures: https://ift.tt/2HijgGe let me know if you have any advice on what to do. Thank you!Edit: by the way just to let you know, this is a UK house made of brick and is fairly old, around 60-80 years old (I can find out for definite it needed), thanks again for any help! via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2TlCDW3
