I have a project I’m working on and am looking for other ideas to address the transitions. 90s built home. Natural white oak engineered flooring. Sunken living room as in the picture. The railing was removed to open up the step down but this creates a handful of issues. The kitchen dining area flooring only goes to the railing and is 1/2 inch above the stair nose. Currently there is a transition/reducer from new floor to old then 7 inches from that is the stair nose. The newel post is anchored below the floor and will need to be cut flush, thus leaving an unfinished, and mismatched grain along with obvious seems. My thoughts without replacing end boards in the engineered floor is to cut off the stair nose, lay down a half inch subfloor in the sunken portion and use a tmolding or seam binder piece. Any other thoughts?sunken LR via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2UYLfin
