I am planning on replacing the carpet in the basement of my home (1975) and I'd like some advice if you're able. The basement is less than 1000 sqft. The areas in question will require less than 800 sqft. of flooring. There is a laundry room, cold storage and a bathroom that will stay as they are (unless you tell me otherwise).I live in the prairies and my property is prone to moisture and the concrete in my basement likes to sweat! Additionally the previous owner put absolutely zero subflooring in the basement and the concrete doesn't appear sealed or painted which likely does not help this problem. In the past I have kept 2 dehumidifiers running in the spring and during rainy periods in summer/fall to get rid of the excess moisture in the house as well as prevent mold/mildew problems. What I would like to do is put in some type of subflooring that allows for moisture to make its way somewhere else. There is a sump pit in the laundry room, but the problem isn't with water leaking anywhere or gathering it one particular spot, it's moisture gathering on the concrete diffusely. The problem is that I know nothing about subflooring so some recommendations would be nice or some tips of where to look and get myself started. As for the laundry room, cold storage and bathroom: I am content with the current concrete in the laundry and cold storage, which is painted. The bathroom has vinyl flooring which I will replace eventually. My question about these rooms is if they can be left with no subflooring or should I be doing the entire basement in one go?Any help would be appreciated. Feel free to ask questions if you need more info!Thank you. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2Hx9LE2
