I have recently bought a house and have come across some electrical that I’m not sure is a problem:In my kitchen, I’ve got a newer 24” GE double oven mounted in the cupboards and a 30” old school cooktop that we’ll be replacing soon. I was looking at the electrical to the area and there is a 40 amp breaker with 2 separate 10 gauge wires hooked to it. One goes to the double oven and one goes to the cooktop. The question: I had always thought that 10 gauge wiring could only be fed from a breaker that was 30 amps or less. This one is unique to me because it’s 40 amps with 2 separate 10 gauge wires, I’m wondering if that is okay. Also, curious if the situation arises where it’s thanksgiving and we’ve got some of the burners on the cooktop going and both of the ovens at the same time if that would cause issues down the line. Since they are 2 separate wires, I could always switch the breaker to a 30 amp and put in another 30 amp farther down the panel for the cooktop. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2UlZf8E
