First time poster, long time lingerer :PI'm sure someone on here will put me in my place with regards to this but it seems like such a simple (or stupid) idea that i have to ask....I am building a summer house at the end of my garden, insulated with double glazed windows and door so thermal performance is in the forefront of my design/plan. Its to house the outdoor bunnies during the winter months...It will have a solar panel on the roof linked to solar power controller and 12V leisure battery (size not important at the moment)...However... heating from a 12V power source, because an inverter to 240V will drain the battery and really isn't an option, is almost non existent or super expensive. I have looked into the 12v carbon heating elements for underfloor heating but its stupidly expensive for what it is...The crazy idea running around my head is using a 12V electric heated blanket as a sort of underlay for the floor finish to give a degree of warmth and heating....The thing that is bugging me is... can it be used like this without starting a fire...all the warmth i would ever need but no summer house :(...and if it can, i cannot find anywhere online where someone has used it in this instance....Obviously the blanket would have a cut of timer and temperature sensor cut off as a safety precaution...Any help or ideas or criticism is very welcome....Obligatory Bunny picture for Karma and upvotes :Phttps://i.redd.it/pjv50s1u6il21.jpg via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2NVO54Y
