My husband and I are going to Germany for 2 weeks im the fall of 2020. My sister is stationed there and has a house, so we only need to save for flights, food, and car rental fees (including border crossings). The amount we have in mind is $5,000 to be safe. We don't want to stress once we are there about money. If we have leftover... great.

We were going to use tax refund money for a large chunk but new tax laws we didnt pay attention to kept us from getting a sizable refund. I am on a tight budget, my husband not as much. I put $200/mo directly into savings, and have $200-$400 to spare per month after bills. We were planning on saving $2,000 by the end of this year to get flights, but the remaining $3,000 can take until we leave to save up.

I know we could be simple and just put money aside each month, but is there a more efficient way to do this? I'm not very knowledgeable about financial stuff.
