And none of us work for the company full time.

We have use Slack to communicate about anything work-related, and oh my gosh that app itself is too all-consuming of data and battery power and the various ways it can be used makes it so time (well, life) consuming--like a rabbit hole. I'm not on social media and am not the type to keep my phone on me at all times so the expectation for us to use it so frequently is actually forcing me to change my lifestyle in ways that are anxietal, honestly.

As an example, I haven't worked for them in four days and was on break from a paid task of weed whacking when I heard my phone texting going crazy. It was my manager, who was in a meeting with my boss, "you need to check Slack; boss wants answers now." And basically I had my other 'boss' right next to me while the demanding one expected me to engage in a multi-faceted, confusing text exchange on Slack.

And I am thinking "who the fuck is this guy to expect us to be glued to our phones, on Slack, and give him instant gratification when he gives us less than part time work?"

I try to see it from his lens, just moving to Hawaii from a big city and now has this high-rated company that inherited 9 simple country folk, many of which do not even have reception where they live. That must be confusing and alien to him. But yet that doesn't make the whole situation less anxietal and me think I should have to conform and essentially change my lifestyle for the one or maybe three days I am on his clock.

I know this is as bit of a rant but I am looking for some advice on how to handle this situation from other people who live simply.

Thank you :)
