Between travel, work and life in general, my backpacks didn't seem to last long, so I a few years ago, I decided to start looking for a tough backpack. I first got a Timbuk2 backpack, but I kept having issues with it (the zipper broke three times and the repairs would take a month or more). I then started alternating it with a North Face backpack, which helped, but it wasn't ideal. Thanks to this subreddit, I finally decided to save up for Goruck GR1. This week I got lucky and was able to get a used one for a great price.
Overall, I'm impressed. The quality of the material and the workmanship is significantly better than either Timbuk2 and North Face. More importantly, it seems like the warranty is much more usable. Repair turn-around seems to be quick and much less hassle than what I've experienced with Timbuk2. After adding up what I've spent on the other backpacks and the time I've spent dealing with lifetime warranties, I regret not getting a better backpack years ago.
