Spectrum recently started its own mobile service, using Verizon’s towers. It’s pretty new—we had to drive 45 minutes to the closest store that lets you BYOD, so it is still rolling out. It’s $14/GB or $45/Unlimited per line.

We went from paying $79 to $29 per month by changing to Spectrum Mobile (two phones using 2gb of data total). That’s a savings of $600/year. We didn’t even really change networks, since Spectrum uses Verizon’s towers. If you have Spectrum Internet (this is a requirement) and an iPhone 6 or later, you should definitely look into it (you can still do it without iphones, but you can’t bring them over and will have to buy a new phone from them).

The only drawback, aside from needing iPhone 6 or later if you want to bring them over, is that Verizon customers will be prioritized in congested areas. Also, whereas Verizon rolls over your data and lets multiple phones draw from the same pool, with Spectrum, your data doesn’t roll over and each line only gets x gigs. So if my husband goes over his GB, he can’t draw from mine, and he will be charged another $14 for extra data. Really, if you typically use over 3GB a month, $45 per line for unlimited is the way to go.

Since it’s new, not all their employees seem to be up to speed. The local Spectrum store incorrectly told us we needed iPhone 7 or later, and the guy at the big store where we brought our devices seemed skeptical that our iPhone SE would work because he’d never heard of that model before (???). But my 6s + and my husband’s SE transferred without a hitch. So just be aware that you may need to call Spectrum directly if you run into any problems like that.

Here’s the website. I’ll update later if we run into any major problems.
