My wife and I are considering selling off our mortgage-free home and taking the cash to rent an apartment for the rest of our years (we are in our early 60’s). For example, if we clear $380k on our home, we can rent a really nice apartment for $2k a month for nearly 16 years (excluding cost of rent increase, etc.). Has anyone out there done something like this? Any advice or pitfalls we should consider?
