I have the American Express Blue Cash Preferred credit card which offers 6% back on groceries up to $6000 per year. It costs $95 annually, but gives you a $200 statement credit after you spend $1,000 within 3 months. I purchased $6,000 worth of Publix gift cards for a 3% discount for a total of 9% savings. (Publix offers 3% back on a purchase of $6,000 worth of gift cards by calling their corporate line) .I'll take a 9% rate of return any day!
I am not sure if other grocery stores offer gift card discounts, but it's worth a look for those who spend a lot AND pay their credit cards in full monthly. Even if you don't buy your groceries from Publix, I guess you could buy some gift cards at Publix and get the 9% back. For instance, if you need something from Home Depot, buy $6,000 worth of HD cards with your Publix gift cards and get back $540.
We get lots of BOGOs from Publix, but find their meats to be a bit pricy and shop elsewhere for meat.
