I finished my 1st lease in May 2018. I had originally put down last month and security deposit. I got renewed but this time we both got rid of the agent that connected me and the landlord. When we did that LL agreed to keep the rent the same.

I am relocating for work before this month is up, and haven't paid for February rent thus far. I recently told the LL that I officially have the job and will be gone (I told them around the 1st I may land it), realistically I officially got word last Tuesday.

I offered to pay a prorated amount for this month, let them keep the deposit in full, and end the renting. The LL said I need to pay in full and they will ignore me breaking the lease.

I am considering not paying anymore period and letting them keep the deposit and last month. Would I be in legal trouble? Would I have to pay back the remaining months?
