This is kind of silly post topic, but I've always used dish towels and rags to wash my dishes. I realized that I've had some of them for well over 10 years now - I bought most of them when I was still in college and got my first apartment, maybe around 2006 or 2007. They got increasingly ragged and worn out over the years, and their numbers dwindled as some wore out faster than others, but they were still fine to wash dishes with and a few of them held out pretty well.

In the past few weeks the last of them began to fall apart, and I decided it was time to replace them. I went to a kitchen supply store the other day and bought a new set of nice cotton dish towels. They're strong and well-made, and I'm looking forward to seeing how many years of use I get out of them.

I guess in a sense there isn't anything frugal in splurging on a nice set of dish towels, but at the same time I'm looking back on all the disposable plastic sponges and brushes I never bought and threw away, and I'm pretty happy about it.

How do you clean your dishes?
