Sorry for the long post, just looking for feedback.
I am a 27yo married male with 1 child. We currently live roughly 30-40 min from immediate family in a 2 br 1 1/2 bath townhouse. With our parents and grandparents getting older and needing more and more care we are considering moving closer. We currently rent in a different state because it is a cheaper and better environment to raise our son. We toyed with the option of buying but neither of us want the financial responsibility (wife is a stay at home mom) or the feeling of being tied to a specific place. Not to mention buying just doesn’t seem as appealing as it did to our parents and grandparents. By the time our current lease is up I will have received an additional raise so our housing budget will have increased but I am considering staying within my current housing budget and renting a 1 bedroom with a loft. This will place us 5 minutes from my family and 15 from hers. In my head I have considered giving our son the bedroom and converting the loft to our bedroom. The floor plan I am looking at will only have 1 bathroom but I don’t see that as a dealbreaker. Before pitching this idea to my wife I would like to have some feedback. Is this crazy? Will she immediately shoot this down? She is very supportive of my ideas and thoughts in general. We would be losing roughly 200 sq ft but as our life has become more and more minimal over the past 3 or so years I don’t see a problem with this.
