I see a lot of requests from people with unrealistic expectations from products. There are a lot of things that don’t make sense to buy for life. Save up your money for the ones that do. Here are a few examples, what else should would-be BIFLers steer clear of?
- Snow shovels. Sturdy metal ones are heavy and tiring to lift, catch on rough surfaces and damage treated surfaces. Buy a lightweight plastic one and treat it as a wear item
- Almost anything with a battery. Technology marches on, software updates don’t
- Anything you wear other than boots. Even men’s fashion has a shelf life, think shiny dress shirts from the 2000s
- Furniture. This also has a shorter shelf life than most people realize. Prices on heirloom furniture are in the toilet right now. If you move count on a large fraction of your furniture to get noticeably damaged
