A little about me: I just turned 30 last week and have finally decided to work on my credit. I pulled my score from CreditKarma and while it isn't good, it looks like I only have a few things to pay off. For 30 years old, I don't have much of a credit history and the few things I have had I let go bad. On my credit report I have 2 federal student loans (~$4000 each) that I have not paid on in at least 7 years (they look like they have been sold to a collections agency), 1 credit card balance (~$1500) from at least 7 years ago, and 3 or 4 small (~$100-$250) doctor/dentist bills that have gone to collections.
My question: I have dodged collection calls for years now. Should I start answering those calls? What do I need to ask for from them? What information should I give to debt collectors? Name? Address? Social? What is my best approach to start paying these debts down? Consolidation? Should I knock out the small doctors bills first?
Thank you in advance for any advice!
