I purchased a two day deal stay from a travel website and upon arrival I gave my card for the $40 "holding fee." I stay my two nights and leave my room key with the desk early in the morning.
Fast forward a few weeks and my credit card notification settings alerts me to $700 from said hotel. I contact the front desk and they send me a receipt which shows just taxes for nights one and two, and then an additional 7 days plus one meal charged to the room.
I emailed, called, left messages, and I could never get ahold of anyone but the front desk.
As my bill date came due I had to do something so I faxed a dispute form to my credit card company and asked what else they needed. They said nothing and that it might take up to two months to review and make a determination. I'm very worried that I really have nothing to defend my case. I assume that if I stayed beyond my intended departure date they would contact me and request approval, or something, but I guess not. I guess if I'm lucky they'll discover they used the wrong credit card for someone else's charges?
So besides not being sure how the charges occurred, I also have no idea how to ultimately "prove" that I shouldn't be charged. Any tips?
