If you have a non urgent job needed doing, keep an eye out for plumbers, junk removal, handymen, etc who are working at other premises nearby. Ask nicely if they would do a job for you. Never had a refusal as they are in the location anyway & the job has been done at a fraction of a call out price

Had a blocked drain and backed up sink cleared for $45, curtain railings installed for $20 and a washer hauled down a flight of stairs and junked for $20. You can expect to pay $100 - $125 for a plumber. Junk removal is around $60 - though I did first try a washer/dryer refurbishment company and say they could have the washer for free they didn't turn up - though that is one I will try again for big appliances
