I make roughly $56K a year. After taxes and my retirement, I have about $46K+ to myself to do whatever I please.

My rent this year was only 500 / month (utilities and everything.) My groceries, gas, gym and phone bill only run me about 450 / month.

I had a $25K at 3% interest personal loan that I was intent on paying off. Now that we're beginning the New Year, I have only gotten the loan down to $14K.

After staring at these numbers all night, I'm trying to figure out where in the HELL I spent all this money? My rent and living only runs me roughly $12K a year. I payed around $10K towards the loan, so what did I do with the other $24,000 I made this year?!

I'm new to this whole having money thing, I don't come from a wealthy family but that's no excuse. I'm just dumbfounded at myself for being so stupid this year, spending as much money as I have with nothing to show for it. I still drive the same crap car that's paid off but nearing 200K miles, I still have my same $14K loan, and still have no savings towards anything (a new car, a down payment on a house, etc.)

I'm moving to a new apartment within the next month (I was sharing a living space with other coworkers) and my rent will double starting this year. I'm just posting here, not for pity, but for some wisdom because I just feel like an absolute idiot.
