Hey Reddit I’m a 22 year old student who loves saving money but in order to accomplish other goals I have to spend money. In an effort to keep this organized I’ll start with my budget.
My income varies between 1,200 a month and 1,600 a month
My expenses are $120 rent (live with a family member ) $80 phone bill $0 - 50 Uber varies $150 food $40 eating out $200 savings
My family member is not going to let me live with them next year. I’m hoping to move into an apartment near my college. That’s why I’m saving $200 a month. I recently paid off a debt so I only have $1,500 saved right now. I’m getting 1,250 financial aid refund but I’ll use maybe 600 for books. I’m not sure what my tax refund will look like either.
I also need to buy a car before I move out. I walk to work or Uber. I get rides with my family member when I go to school because she works at the college. I need a MacBook Pro because I’m in the graphic design field in school and it’s a requirement.
I’m planning on going to NYC in March for the weekend and Florida in the summer for a week.
I’m just a little overwhelmed when I look at the prices of MacBooks and Rent prices, and car prices. I just can’t imagine having the money to be paying everything like rent and car insurance and car repairs.
I know I have a lot of room in my budget now for saving but It’s hard to separate the savings for different items in the same account. Also I know to buy a used car and the apple refurbished store is a good option but it’s still a lot of money to spend.
Thanks for reading. I hope it made some sense.
TL;DR 22 year old student. I have to move out in a year, buy a car, a MacBook, and planning on going on vacations. Not sure if I can save enough money with my varied income.
