Edit: I wasn't sure what to write initially for the title, but in hindsight I meant it more like, "does anyone have any tips for negotiating a salary on a unionized job"

So I got a verbal job offer today at a unionized job. I have previous experience in this same line of work and by the end of the interview they said they were looking forward to having me, but because of the union they would have to submit my information to their corporate office to figure the starting wage offering because they could give me the official written offer. I know the pay scales in the union are based on experience, so I'm just not sure if I'm in any position to try and negotiate what they offer me. if so, any advice on how to go about that? especially anything specific to the fact that it's a union job?

I know what the absolute base rate they would offer someone starting in that position, and I think they may offer more, but if they don't (and maybe even if they do but may be still a bit low) I feel like I'd usually be in a good position to negotiate, but I've just never had to deal with a union before.
