My boss (who happens to be a life long friend), is making me go to a 1099 after 8 years. I originally lived in NY, then moved to OK for two years, but have moved back to NY within the last year. He says that NY is a total pain in the ass to work with for his taxes or something similar,, and does not want to deal with the consequences of my personal life (moved to OK for a woman - didn’t work out. Long story there).
He doesn’t want the headache anymore of NY, so is making go to a 1099. From what I’ve read there really is not much of a benefit to being an IC. Gross income is about $3300/mo. I will start paying $840 in child support next month.
Any insight into why he wants this so badly? Can I make this work for me?
