So my fiancé and I are living with my MIL, her boyfriend and his daughter, and my fiancé’s little sister to save money while I finish school.

We pay half of their rent (I know..), but it does save money, as we live in a beach town and it’s close to my school and work. It sucks to pay that much for a small bedroom with a leaky roof, and 3 dogs crammed into one room, but we’ve been making due. A few more months and we’re out.

The agreement was that we pay that much, and they’d also buy groceries and cook dinner. However, every 1/3 weeks, we have to split “dishes week” with their 10-12 year old daughters. Okay, whatever.

However, the past few weeks, no one has been cooking. They’ve been eating out by themselves, leaving my fiancé and I to eat sandwiches, or dollar menu items, rice, etc.

Sometimes they do cook, maybe 1-2 times a week, and my fiancé will cook maybe 2 times a week if they buy the groceries. We financially can not afford to buy the groceries for 6 people. If I buy enough for just me and him, everyone else eats it. If I buy enough to cook a meal for just me and him, I look like the bad guy.

But I’ve had enough. We pay rent that includes groceries. I don’t pay half the rent of a four bedroom house (that includes utilities) for one bedroom, and supposedly groceries to eat one meal a day.

So I’m done. I’m going to start buying our own groceries. I’m going to tell them that we will be paying them $150 less a month, and labeling the food as ours.

FrugalReddit, I need some cheap meal plans, cheap meal options, maybe some advice. Obviously noodles and rice is at the top of my list! I’m going to seem like a bad guy but I can’t do it y’all!
