I moved from IL to MI in 2012. 2012 was a split year for employment, so I filed in both states and paid tax according to each job in each state. My accountant filed a change of address for the split year.

Last year I get a letter from the Illinois Tax collections.. I owe them like $8000 in fees, interest, and taxes for 2014 and 2015. Illinois had all of the correct income and deduction amounts on their paperwork for what I paid in Michigan. The accountant sent them the original change of address, and a letter stating I was not a resident of their state, nor did I work in it. We provided my Michigan tax returns too. Never got a response, they apparently don't respond?

The address, phone number, website are all legit. It isn't a scam letter from an individual.

I just got a letter from Illinois Tax collections for 2017.

What hell is going on? How do I stop this nonsense?
