My family has been with AT&T for over a decade, I finally made the switch and ported all our numbers over to Mint, we end up saving ~50% and the service has been better than AT&T. I did run into some issues, but they were resolved pretty quickly (check my post history for more details). I switched to Mint Mobile and they currently have a promotion going on, $20 for 3 months of service (5 gb data monthly, unlimited text and calls). I'd suggest you'd try it at that price on a dummy/spare phone. They use T-Mobile's network, so if you're already on that, your coverage should be the same.
