Went to the ER about 2 months ago from a 15-ft fall while hiking. Hit my head so I thought I should get checked out. I saw the doctor for less than 6 minutes. He asked me some questions, looked into my eyes and ears and said I should be fine in a few weeks. I told them I don't have insurance so I'd clean and dress my flesh wounds on my own. After I was discharged the billing lady came and gave me two options: (1) pay for each individual item for my visit or (2) pay a flat fee of $220 since my visit to the ER was so short. I REPEATEDLY asked if I would be charged for ANYTHING else if I chose to go with the flat fee of $220 and she said no. She said if I paid for the individual items, I could be charged separately by the doctor and she didn't know how much that could be. So I decided to pay the flat fee. 2 months later I get another bill from CEP America for $300. I called asking what this was and apparently the doctor I saw is an independent physician who bills separately from the hospital. I asked what I was being charged for since he literally did nothing but examine me for 5 minutes and the person on the phone said there was no information on what exactly I was being charged for. Any advice?
