I traveled to Italy this previous summer at the end of July. Yesterday I received two speeding tickets (from the same day, 8 minutes apart) that now total € 700 or $800, since I failed to pay within 60 days.

The letters come from Provincia di Pisa. They are not very official looking, but do seem legit. Both say I was traveling 114 kph in a 90kph zone ( ≈ 70mph in a 55mph zone). It is possible that this is true.

In order to pay the tickets, the letter only gives information to pay by *bank deposit* which I'm not entirely comfortable with.

There is an address provided for sending an appeal, this also says within 60 days. I plan to try this, but I'm not that hopeful since the deadline has passed.

Any advice on what I should do? It will be hard to afford $800, originally it would have been $300 total if I got the fine one time, which would be much more affordable.

What would the consequences be of not paying? I'm not planning to go back to Italy anytime soon, but I would like to go back to Europe someday and possibly Italy again. I'm not opposed to paying for the consequences of speeding, but I can barely get $800 together right now.

Should I pay the fines or ignore the letters?

Edit: I live in Vermont, USA.
