One plan I have is to enlist in the air force, do a 4 year contract, save $50-60k over those 4 years (so about $12.5-15k saved a year, with the minimum pay grade being $18k a year) and then use the next 4 years taking advantage of the Illinois veterans grant and the Montgomery GI Bill to go to college for free and get paid going there. MGIB pays for 36 months of college and since I'd be getting around $1.4k a month deposited directly to me, after 36 months and 8 years in total I will have $104-114k AND a very useful bachelors degree at a good college that I can profit off of. And I will be the ripe young age of 26/27 when it's all done and over with.
I know the frugal lifestyle already. I am 18 years old and save at least 60-70% of my paychecks (I work only one part time job at the moment). After the military and while being in college I will plan to work a part time job to support getting rent and other utilities paid for when I finally live on my own.
Are there any better alternatives to joining the air force and going to college so that I can save $100k+ in 8 years or less?
