First, I am sorry I did not make an update earlier, life has been busy. Here is a link to the original post. I came to tell you guys that 1) my sister and brother in law are happily moved into their new home. They have settled in quite nicely. 2) They chose to use the money to help with the down payment. In order to gift them the money all I had to do was sign a paper saying it was a gift and provide a bank statement proving the money had been in my account for some time (I did not end up creating a separate account). They also had to provide bank statements. This was in the state of Ohio. If you are trying to do a similar thing elsewhere your experience may differ. 3) my new baby niece will arrive at the end of January! Here is a picture of the happy couple at their baby shower Sunday
