My wife and I are new-ish frugalers. We love to travel but we were often spending $5,000+ on a week’s vacation inclusive of airfare and lodging. What we came to realize is we weren’t going on as many trips as we would like, so we are looking for more frugal ways to travel to allow us to go more places on the same dollar. We have begun collecting airline miles and have found the crazy cheap prices of hostels that we never knew existed.
Our next trip is Honolulu and Waikiki Beach, which we are trying to complete for a total of $1,000-$1,200. We have never been to Hawaii, so this coming May will be our first experience with the culture and prices. Our flights are free from our American Airlines miles and our hostel is one block away from the beach and will be $518 for the week. We also get free breakfast at our hostel.
That leaves us about $500 for food and entertainment for the week. We are perfectly fine with just sitting in the beach and hanging out in the water and enjoying nature. If there are entertaining things that must be done an can be done within that budget, we’d love some suggestions. Otherwise, we are looking for answers on whether or not it’s realistic to stay at around $80 per day with two people for food and a small amount of entertainment. What are ways you did it frugally? Look forward to talking with y’all!
