I recently moved and took a job as a contract worker. Any days I take off I take unpaid. I'm not pregnant yet but my husband and I would like to think about starting a family. I knew I wouldn't get maternity leave but I thought there'd be a solution so I didn't have to go a minimum of 6 weeks unpaid. I've looked into short-term disability but every answer I'm getting is that it only works with your company, not as an independent contractor. Every search I come up with on Google is the same thing and I'm not getting a straight answer so maybe there is no option for me. I wanted to know if anyone knows of companies that offer short-term disability to cover pregnancy for individual contractors. We can certainly budget for those weeks unpaid but it would be easier if we didn't have to.
