I have a GE range. Sunday morning the heating element burned up and melted into a few pieces. I looked online for what to do and found it's a pretty simple replacement as long as you get the right part.I found what I believe is the correct part on Amazon. I used the GE website to look up the part number and it matches. It's literally the exact same shape and has the exact same connectors. It arrived today. I installed it, turned the oven on, and within a few seconds I smelled the easily identifiable scent of electrical smoke/fire. I could see a small amount of smoke inside the oven as well. I turned the oven off and unplugged it.I did more reading and saw one person with a similar problem say it's natural to smoke during the first 2-3 minutes as the element burns off the chemicals that are on it (from things like being touched). Is it, though? It really smelled like electrical. I'd like to try again when I have my fire extinguisher ready.Anyone care to share some wisdom? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2rAATYK
