It’s not exactly what it seems in the title, but I’ll explain.
For once, I decided to spend and create a room where I could truly relax at night after work. This was totally extra money. I was not worried about cost too much, because this room would be priceless for me.
After buying everything over a 1 year period, I added up all of my purchases (new carpet, a leather electric reclining couch, technology/gaming, TV, computer, desk, music items). I spent about $3100 total. I took my time to research products/etc. The $3100 could be considered my largest splurge ever.
Without looking, I knew I was doing well on the budget, but this is what I did not anticipate. I recently checked how much was of the budget was left, and I found $5500 left for the room. I’m $500 UP on the budget, after getting everything.
I am realizing that I simply cannot spend money. I know I purchased items, but I did not anticipate that I would combat my own spending with unrelated cuts elsewhere after every purchase. I seem to have a built in defense mechanism for spending — even if I splurge. Either I don’t spend at all, or find a way to recover it every time.
