I have been and active Facebook user for 10 years. I only knew about it because a friend recommend I sign up in 2008.
Originally, Facebook used to be like this:
- A mere acquaintance in a class that you haven't spoke to would add you.
- People used to like, like, like everything (now they don't).
- Everyone's profiles were mostly public and people didn't seem to care.
I noticed these things have changed. One of the changes like privatising your profile to friends only is a positive. However, it seems like adding someone on Facebook you are friends in real life with is now too "weird" or "personal".
Hardly anyone seems to do this or engage with others on social media anymore, yet they still post their own content and expect people to flood to them.
Only a user's grandma is less reluctant to like someone's post nowadays. I think Facebook (and other social media platforms) have made users conceited and vain.
This is not just me ranting about my current state on Facebook. This is what I have seen among almost everybody I am connected with on Facebook.
