I work contracted security in Chicago and feel that I'm underpaid and don't foresee being able to negotiate a raise due to the fact that I'm a low level manager. The company I work for does not have very good benefits; I'm "salary" but it is prorated, so I only make what I work, salary comes out to $15 an hour. Any hours I put in over 40 I only receive $14 an hour for and due to shortages I'm stuck into working at least 48 hours a week. No 401k benefits and HR has not been getting back to me about Health Insurance Benefits. I've been applying for jobs with the Federal Government, State, and other private and public entities; have probably applied for roughly 10 jobs within the past few weeks and besides going through a slow process with two Federal positions haven't heard anything from any of the other applications I sent out.
I recently got moved to a different location for my job to help out with staff shortages and now am stuck working the overnight shift and I seriously hate it due to there being nothing to do, I actually enjoy working and staying busy and having nothing going on makes it so difficult to want to come into work each day. I do have a part time job that I work on weekends but unfortunately cannot work during the week to make extra money since all the shifts are at night.
I'm starting to feel unmotivated and stressed out and not sure where to go from here. Each day that passes that I don't hear back from a job offer chips away a little more at my enthusiasm to work and the only reason I honestly haven't gone through with my consideration of just leaving my job is due to wanting to save up money to move out of my parents house but my limited income makes me feel like I'm barely making progress at my goal.
I'm sorry that this is more of a rant than anything but I'm really just not happy with work at the moment and feel I'm getting stuck in a rut.
