My boyfriend and I have been talking about getting married. He has asked for ideas on an engagement ring and I'm stumped. I'm the type of woman who has never really put much thought into weddings. I always thought more about what I want in a husband. I love jewelery so I know a lot about diamonds and the more I learn the more they kind of leave a sour taste in my mouth. I should clarify I always make my jewelery purchases myself when I want to treat myself. Usually thrift stores or pawn shops where you aren't paying ridiculous retail prices. Boyfriend doesn't seem thrilled at this prospect for an engagement ring though I may be able to persuade him.
If I can't, I'm entirely open to alternatives. I love opals but I'm worried about their durability. I'm worried moissanite will look like a pastel disco ball. Most of all I'm worried he's going to break the bank trying to make me happy. He totally is the type to drop big money on a ring and I don't want that at all. Nor do I want some expensive wedding. Honestly I'd be happy just getting hitched on the cheap at some resort or on a cruise ship.
How did you do this marriage thing without going into debt for it? Our timeline is probably looking at a year out. We want to be engaged for a bit before we jump in.
